I trusted you once, I ain't gonna make that mistake again. Get away from me.
Acquaintance[]
I'll never forget what you done for us, Player. For me, my Pa... all of us. If you hadn't helped, heck, I'd probably be face down in a ditch somewhere...
Can't make an omelet without breakin' some eggs. But... if them eggs ain't yours to break, reckon you gotta pay for 'em one way or another...
Wanna be a monster hunter? Then you are one. Ain't no test, ain't no license. Take down a few of the big ones, live to tell the tale, then... and only then, you'll be a legend like my Pa.
Home sweet home. Lotta places are just how I remember but... you been busy, huh, Player?
Leave the monster huntin' to me, Player. You got enough on your plate as it is. 'Least, that's what I heard.
Buddy[]
Thanks to you, Sandrock is well on its way to being the best it can be. At times, I was worried I'd never see this town again, much less, well... all this.
The mask? Yeah, never was much wearin' it 'round these parts, but... I reckon it stopped me from bein' recognized a couple times out there...
If you're goin' out into the wilds, take me along. I'll watch your back, you watch mine. Just like it was back then.
Survivin' out in the wilds... ain't as tough as some make it out to be. Heck, even a tourist'll hold out a couple days til rescue. But never leave things up to chance. Always go out with a plan. And if you ever got a bad feelin' in your gut; don't question it. Just turn tail and head home.
I'm never lost, so long as I can see the sky. My Pa taught me how to read the stars, find my way home wherever I am. If you plan on venturin' too far out of town, reckon you oughta do the same.
Good Friend[]
Rambo always stops and asks to visit whenever we go by your place... Heh, he's really warmin' up to ya...
Don't forget to check up on Andy from time to time. Kid adores you. But who can blame'm? You are the hero of Sandrock, after all.
I'll never know if I ever made my Pa proud. Guess all I can do is keep keepin' on...
After bein' on the run for so long, sometimes I sleep better outside than I do in. Sky as my blanket, dirt as my pillow, and the bright morning sun to rise and make sure I don't sleep the day away...
One day I'd like to take my chances in the Peripheries, but never so long as Sandrock needs a watchful eye.
Tried sharin' the ol' cocoa recipe with Andy the other day. Took a bit of coercion; he's goin' through a phase fakin' he don't like sweets. Took one sip and spit it out. "Addin' this much salt to chocolate, you tryin' to get yourself thrown back in the slammer?" Looks like the family recipe might end with me.
During a sandstorm[]
My Pa and I used to always hide out in caves 'til storms like this passed through. Nothin' brave 'bout goin' out of your way to put yourself in danger.
On rainy days[]
When it would rain, me and my Pa would stick it out and make a shelter. We'd get sticks from woodpiles and gather some leaves for a cover. He'd tell me stories and we'd make something hot to drink. Ain't a rainy day goes by I don't miss that old man.
It rained the day after Martle disappeared. It'd been years of drought 'round that time, too. Some say the now yearly rains are on account of her bein' up there somewhere, cryin' she couldn't've done more to help...
On snowy days[]
Regular lines[]
Heck, I remember goin' with my Pa in the snow when I was young. For a monster hunter, snow was like a blessin'. You can track anythin' real easy.
Married[]
When it snows, the monsters tend to go back an' hide out. It gets real peaceful. You got many commissions today? If not, let's spend the day together.
You don't have to worry about these yakmel givin' you trouble. Now, if it was goats on the other hand... Haru took a week just to get a saddle on Marle. Them goats, they can smell fear.
Another year goes by. So, what's next? Can we make next year better than the last? I intend to. Hope you'll keep doin' you.
Speech bubbles[]
Reviving Logan after his HP reaches 0:
You're a lifesaver... Now, let's get back at 'em!
Conversations[]
Birthday[]
My birthday is one day before the Day of Memories, a holiday I usually go out of my way to forget about these days. So I'm not usually in a celebratin' mood 'round then.
Other events[]
Guest at the player's wedding:
I can tell just by the way you look at each other that it was meant to be. Congrats.
Was pretty swell huntin' down critters with you, Player. Elsie pulled her weight, too. I'm not sure I'll ever think the same way about monster huntin' solo...
Lotta opportunity on the horizon. Which means, everybody's gonna want their big idea to be what we do next. My monster hunter outpost... it can wait, I reckon. Unless more monsters show up...
Don't get shook. Yeah, we don't know what's wrong with the forest. But panic'll get us nowhere. Everybody, keep your head on straight, we'll figure this out.
Glad soon I'll be able to get someone to take Andy off my hands from time to time. Love 'im like a son, but he can be a real handful. Better tell ol' Janey to watch out; he'll steal anything that ain't bolted to the floor...
Well, I'll be a Yakmel's uncle. Never thought I'd see the day. Good on ya Player. Send my regards to all those that helped you make this happen. I'll raise a glass in your names.
I feel sorry for Larry. I never thought Gary would do him dirty like that... must be hard to have to face down yer cousin like that. Glad he's with us, though.
This is exactly the kind of gear you want to have out on the trail. Well... I'll be darned, Player! Seems I've got a guardian angel lookin' out over me. Have to say, I'm much obliged.
When gifted a loved resource:
These are... pretty hard to come by, ain't they? Well, shoot, now I have to find a good use for 'em, aint I?
Goodness gracious. This... this is a high quality weapon! I'll need to practice but... its an extraordinary privilege to have something so fine in the palm of my hand...
Fine equipment. Trail essentials. Appreciate the gift, but don't forget to have some of these on hand for yourself, if the need ever arises.
Neutral gifts[]
When gifted jewelry:
I, er, eh... Very pricey. I appreciate that. But, ah... in the future, I'm more of a practical person. You don't need to shower me with stuff like this...
Disliked gifts[]
When gifted beauty products:
It's... gooey. What does it do...?
When gifted beauty tools:
I'm gonna say... we're not exactly dealin' with essentials, are we? I fear... I might not have room in my pack for stuff like this when I'm headed out.
I don't think you really get me, this thing is not really 'me.'
When gifted spicy dishes:
I dunno if I can eat this... It's got what kinda peppers in it...?
Play dates[]
Start and end[]
Play date starts:
Yeah, why don't you show me around? It's your town as much as it is mine now, ain't it.
Play date ends in a good mood:
Well, I'll be darned. Didn't know such a good time could be had within city limits. You're gonna make a city slicker outta me.
Play date ends in a neutral mood:
Was good to get a bit of R&R. Well, back to it then.
Play date ends in a bad mood:
I'll be honest, this runnin' around town business ain't really my speed. Next time you want to hang, let's just get a few milks at the saloon. Be seein' ya.
Player decides not to do an activity:
Changed your mind?
Speech Bubbles (Play Dates)[]
Player runs ahead of Logan for a period of time:
Huff... startin' to look like someone's itchin' for a footrace!
Sitting and chatting[]
Suggests to start the activity:
Could stop here for a breather.
Compliment appearance:
Well, I've been told I can clean up nice. Rarely get the opportunity. Hope that'll change one day.
Well, I've got to have a bit of an aura. Strike fear into the hearts of my enemies and all that. Horns on my hat aren't just a fashion choice.
Gotta stay in shape. One false step and I could be monster food. And if being in shape is what some people are into... Well, I can hardly be blamed for that, now can I?
Nice of you to say, but I hope you can appreciate my skills as a monster hunter as well. They're far more valuable to you, I can promise you that.
Well, it's mostly about low maintenance. I always told Haru and Andy to cut their hair shorter. You could smell those birds nests half a league away after we'd been on the trail a while.
Compliment work:
It's really about alertness, stayin' on your toes. Doesn't matter if you've fought a monster a hundred times. That doesn't mean it's goin' to be the same or any easier. You defeated the monster by tryin' your hardest the first time. That means you have to try your hardest every time.
Well, it's just makin' good habits, same as you. Practice a move a thousand times 'cause when the pressure is on, you want that muscle memory to kick in. No time to think with teeth gnashing in your face.
Compliment personality:
Yeah, you know, forgive me if I ever have trouble lighting the mood. Monsters tend not to laugh at jokes, so I haven't gotten mush practice for some time.
Well I think you're in the minority on that one. Glad you think so.
Huh? What's doin' if for ya? My inability to filter anythin' I say or do? Or my inability to hold a conversation about anything other than monster huntin' for ten minutes?
Well, ain't that somethin'? Maybe I've gotten nicer after puttin' all my mortal enemies away for life. Which I have you to thank for by the way.
Well, I think I'm at my best when I keep my mouth shut. Often I find, however, that that just ain't an option for me.
I'll warn you, I do have a bit of a temper. But I can assure you it's reserved only for the most deplorable of scoundrels. Water thieves, killers, you know the type.
Asked about his past:
My Pa hardly ever left me at home since I was about ten. We were out on the trail keepin' the peace about since I can remember. 'Course he'd leave me at home for the real action. Y'know, Peripheries monsters. But he'd let me tag along for the village patrols. That's how I met Haru.
We met Andy out in a sandstorm after gettin' a tip that a monster was stompin' around one of the local water holes. We were on the run then, but that didn't stop us. When we got there, we found Andy. Seems like he got lost from his caravan some time ago and had been livin' on his own.
Pa always said folks meet for a reason. Never turned down a stranger, so course of action seemed clear. We took 'im in. Said we were a "gang" and not just two runaways. I think that gave him some purpose. Took his mind off what happened. Took my mind off things too I reckon. Bein' a father to him helped with the hurt of losin' mine.
First meal runnin' off from Sandrock, that was the worst. We were too scatterbrained to make camp, too shook to get a fire goin'. I kept runnin' things through my head. What happened... What went wrong...
Eventually I felt myself gettin' weaker, exhausted. We had to stop and eat somethin'. Snagged a few sandfish, but they tasted like... death. That was the most miserable I'd ever been in my life. They say time heals wounds, and I reckon that's true. But what they don't tell you about is the scars.
Yeah, we stumbled upon this old world amusement park. Bunch of the rides still worked. You remember, ended up being rather triflin' settin' up there. Andy would always run off and get on the rides. To put our minds at ease, Haru ended up tinkerin' with all the more dangerous lookin' ones. Fixed up nice and good, Andy-proof. With one less thing to worry about, that's when we started cookin' up our plan.
I heard that as soon as I started the "robberies", reporters started showin' up and folks started sayin' they wanted to write a book about my life of crime. I took pretty great offense to that, if I'm honest.
At that point, if anybody deserved to be written about it'd be my Pa. He lived an amazing, selfless, life. Hardly so much as a paragraph put to ink. The press, seems they love bad news, don't it? That's what really sells the papers.
I once asked my Pa about my Ma, I thought he'd be sad or angry or somethin', y'know? 'Cause he tore his wedding picture and all... But he had this smile and distant look on his face when he thought about her.
He told me that she's still out there and that he hoped that one day I'd meet her. So, I don't know much about her.
I looked up to my Pa ever since I could remember. Could be intimidating at times tryin' to keep up, follow in his footsteps. I remember one time I asked him, "How come you never get scared?" He said, "Well, I get scared all the time. Last week, when you lost your footing on that ledge, my heart jumped out of my chest." But you'd never know it, lookin' at him.
Dining[]
Suggests to start the activity:
Never a bad time to stop in at the saloon.
Asked about work:
It takes a certain breed to do what I do, I'll give you that. Long lonesome nights far away from home, conditions bitin' at your neck, never knowin' when a fight is lurkin' 'round the corner. But, hey, you get to make your own schedule.
My Pa always said if you don't like it, quit. So, I learned to love it. It's not so much the job I enjoy, but the smiles you put on peoples' faces, the lives you know you've changed for the better. And, y'know, when someone puts their lives in your hands, makes you really want to step up.
What do you think? Ever want to jump ship, become a monster hunter like me?
Come on, Builder, honorary member of the Civil Corps, plus whatever else you got goin' on. Nah, you ain't got the time. I shouldn't have asked.
Yeah, you're a Builder all right, flows in your veins. Seems true of me and my trade. I don't hold it against ya.
Eufaula's gonna need more monster hunters.
Guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Sometimes, it's not the monsters you've got to watch out for, it's the everything else that'll get you. Sunstroke by day, bitter cold by night. Bedbugs, ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, famine, disease, meat gone bad, malnourishment... Oh, and of course, there's still those monsters I mentioned earlier.
Yeah, well, somebody's gotta fill my father's shoes, keep this town safe. Reckon I'm hardly up for it, but I'm the best we've got.
Truth be told, most of the time it's boring. You sit out there on the trade routes, on the roads between towns, and you wait. For days, nothin' happens. And then suddenly yours and everyone around you's life is on the line. But, as I've said, somebody's got to do it.
Asked what he likes to do:
I'll stop by the bounty board from time to time. When things are slow, I'm not too big to put away some nuisance for a bit of spending money.
When there's nothing on the bounty board, I'll usually do a quick loop around the perimeter to check for new monsters, observe behavior. You can never know too much about your enemy.
Asked about his favorite things:
This shootin' iron on my hip here is custom made. Fires about twenty rounds, has a stabilizer for keepin' your hand from goin' numb, and the sights... I put 'em on myself.
You never can have too much protection, and by that I mean any decent piece of firearm. Sure, I've got ol' faithful over here, but switching to a backup is always preferable to reloading.
My Pa used to make the meanest monster gut stew. I've never been able to get the recipe quite right. And when you're cookin' with monster guts... Well, there's little incentive to keep at it.
Being on the trail, you learn to get along without sharpening stones, sturdy weapons and armor, and... You know what? One of the best things you could get out there was a nice pair of shoes with a pair of clean and washed big fluffy socks. Good shoes and socks just make your whole day a thousand times better.
Hope you won't think less of me for sayin' this, but good meds. Sure, I can grin and bear it like the best of 'em, but havin' somethin' that'll alleviate the pain after takin', say a Scorpster sting to the gut... Well, it's a luxury I wish I could afford more often is all.
When ordering food:
Get whatever you want. I'm easy.
Happy with the food player has ordered:
Either Owen really upped his game, or I've been on the trail way too long. Nice picks.
Neutral towards the food player has ordered:
This should keep us goin'.
Unhappy with the food player has ordered:
Hate to be rude, but I'd rather eat fried Bumble Ant. Didn't even know this stuff was on the menu...
Sand drawing[]
Suggests to start the activity:
Sand painting? Eh... Never really been my thing. But we could give it a try.
Drawing successful:
Hey, how 'bout that? We got it perfect. I never knew I had it in me. Thanks for putting up with my two left feet.
Drawing unsuccessful:
Ah, well, leave the art to the artists. My paintbrush is a six shooter.
Fireworks[]
Suggests to start the activity:
Could shoot off some fireworks, now that I'm not sneaking around no more.
Happy with the fireworks display:
You really lit up the night sky. Flash of beauty, gone in an instant. Can't help but admire the spectacle.
Neutral with the fireworks display:
That all of 'em? Yeah, not bad. Let's mosey
Unhappy with the fireworks display:
You've got all your fingers. Careful with those things if you want to keep it that way.
Whac-A-Mole[]
Suggests to start the activity:
This ol' thing? Used to scratch the monster huntin' itch whenever there weren't none to hunt. Think you can take a round off me?
Player wins:
Well done. You might just be the fastest hammer of this side of the Shonash.
Player loses:
Hey, don't take it so hard. I'm a professional.
Game ends in a draw:
Dang, just needed one more. A draw? I'd rather lose than tie.
Space Pilferers[]
Suggests to start the activity:
It's a game where you snatch up some Gols? Eh... Might not be the best look for me, all things considered. Ah, to heck with it! Sure, it's just a game after all.
Player wins:
Well played! You hardly let any of 'em get by.
Player loses:
Dang, we're no good at this. Best stick to adventurin' in the real world.
Game ends in a draw:
Well, we don't have to be good at everythin'.
Stargazing[]
Suggests to start the activity:
If you ever get lost, just look up for the big scoop. Tip of it is the guiding star. Let's see which other ones we can't make out tonight.
All three constellations found:
Well, I'll be. You can sure spot 'em in a flash. Reckon that's part of what makes you such a crackshot as well.
Two constellations found:
Heck, I can't remember what half of 'em are called anyway. That was good enough.
One or no constellations found:
Some of these constellations are slippery. Can't hardly tell which is which. Well... They're not goin' anywhere. Let's try again some other time.
Tram Cart[]
Suggests to start the activity:
Why don't we take this for a spin? Never got to see the city from up high 'til you fixed it.
Casual Talk Option 1:
Whaddya think, ever want to jump ship, become a monster hunter like me?
Yeah, I do.
No, I'd rather just be a Builder.
→ Yeah, I do.
Tch... c'mon, Player. Builder, honorary member of the Civil Corps, plus... whatever else you've got goin' on. Nah, you ain't got the time. I shouldn'tve asked.
→ No, I'd rather just be a Builder.
Yeah, you're a Builder alright. Flows in your veins. Same's true of me and my trade. I don't hold it against you. Eufaula is gonna need more monster hunters... Guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Three or two interactions done:
Quite the view. Kind of puts everythin' into perspective, huh? Thanks for takin' me.
One interaction done:
This thing really crawls, huh...? Well, I'll try anything once.
No interactions done:
Yeah... That's about enough of that.
Sandrunning[]
Suggests to start the activity:
So, they've made a whole thing outta this, huh? I used to have a sled when I was a kid. Let's see if I've still got the knack for it.
Player scores S rank:
Pretty slick. Don't even think Rambo could've barrelled down that hill as quick as you did.
Player scores A or B rank:
Yeah, gotta watch those curves. That's where you can really lose your momentum.
Player scores C rank or lower:
Eh. Why don't you just let me drive next time?
Rollercoaster[]
Suggests to start the activity:
From a distance this ride looks like one of the monsters outta the Peripheries. Haha, why don't we take it on together?
Correct Number Sequence:
Haha that's right! Yer mind is sharper than this rusty ol' monster hunter's.
Incorrect Number Sequence:
Was it? Ah, I don't remember. Ain't a big thing, the ride was fun.
Carousel[]
Suggests to start the activity:
I've ridden Yakmel, goats, horses, but fruit... that's new.
Finished:
Sittin' on there it felt like you were chasin' me through the desert again! Haha, ain't half bad.
Sand Buggies[]
Suggests to start the activity:
Rushin' around on the buggies kinda feels like bein' back in the desert, Rambo runnin' full speed ahead. Haha, maybe we can give it a shot.
Player wins:
Dang, yer one heck of a driver! I guess ridin' Rambo ain't given me the skills I thought!
Player loses:
Seems like Rambo's got the speed an' mobility of a dune buggy. Ah, don't worry, give it a few more tries, I'm sure you'll beat me
Romance[]
Confession response[]
Accepted:
Yeah, you know, after all we've been through... Can't say I ain't considered it myself. I'd like that, for you to be by my side.
Rejected:
Now's not a good time.
Rejected after a previous break-up:
How's about you think about it some more and we'll come back to this one.
What? This some kind of twisted joke? Sounds like you and your partner need to sit down and have a chat. I plan to stay out of this.
Regular lines[]
Howdy, darlin'. Care for any of the fine delicacies our wilderness has to offer? Fruit? Berries? Ever take a bite out of a Boxing Jack? Well, offer's on the table...
If you've got too much to do in the workshop, get me to run out for chores and errands. I'm sure... I can figure it out...
You don't ever have to worry about me runnin' into trouble out in the wilds, darlin'. I've learned my lesson. If I'm ever in over my head, I'll come back for help. Got too much to live for these days.
Rambo knows how to get to your place from practically anywhere in the city. I just say the word and he cruises us right on over.
Where today love? You make the call. I'm your partner in crime.
Andy says he thinks of us as his parents. I said we ain't that old yet, but I do hope you'll be around to help me look after him.
During a sandstorm:
When it's stormin' like this, you stay close, y'hear? I won't let a damn thing near ya.
During rainy days:
Most critters hide when the weather's like this. Some folks ought to learn somethin' from 'em 'cause this is when the big dogs come out.
During snowy days:
When it snows, the monsters tend to go back and hide out. It gets real peaceful. You got many commissions today? If not, let's spend the day together.
On dates[]
Date starts:
You read my mind. Where to, darlin'?
Date ends in a happy mood:
Every time I'm with you darlin', it's like fallin' in love all over again.
Date ends in a neutral mood:
It's good gettin' out like this. Keep the spark alive. Let's do it again soon.
Date ends in an unhappy mood:
Maybe you're overthinkin' things, darling. Let's just let things happen naturally.
Jealous[]
Caught the player cheating:
Never expected you to be a two-timer, Player. I've had a lot of knives stuck in my back, but this one hurts the most. Hope you're pleased with yourself.
Regular lines:
I trusted you once. I ain't gonna make that mistake again. Get away from me.
I appreciate you helpin' me out and all, but maybe it's for the best if you give me a little space, alright?
Breakup response[]
I must say this comes as a shock. I was all in. Wherever you led I'd have followed.
Breakup letter[]
If the player marries someone else while dating him:
Shoulda known you were trouble the second you walked into my life. Guess that one's on me.
So long.
Logan
Marriage[]
Rejects the player's proposal:
Now's not the right time for that. Let's just... Give me a bit of time, alright?
Accepts the player's proposal:
Look, it ain't like I haven't been thinkin' about it, but wherever I go Andy comes with. I've taken him in and I ain't about to throw that boy out on the street. If we get married, he's coming with me. Now, can you live with that?
I wouldn't have it any other way!
I don't know about that...
→ I wouldn't have it any other way!
Alright, alright. He loves you anyway so I ain't like you got to get to know him.
Well, I guess this is it. I'm gonna give us the best future you can imagine.
→ I don't know about that...
I know it's a lot to ask, but I ain't gonna budge on this one.
At the wedding ceremony:
Hey. Look how many people showed up. Guess they really like you, huh? Too bad for them, you're all mine.
You don't like your nickname? Let's think of another one.
Regular lines:
Look, Pet name, I don't wanna have no secrets between us. I wanna everythin' to be open between us.
I used to be a bit of a mess, before you came along, Pet name. Home was anywhere I could rest my head. But now, the further I go, the more I can't wait to run back to you.
Pet name, bein' a monster hunter ain't easy, but you don't gotta worry about me, alright? I know bein' a Builder ain't easy either, don't tire yourself out.
Pet name, anythin' you need lately? If there's anythin' I can do for you, just let me know.
Unhappy in the marriage:
Look, I ain't perfect. If I've done somethin' wrong, just tell me. I'm gonna try and be a better man.
If something's botherin' you, just let me know.
Divorce response:
Even after everything we've been through? Forget it.
Pet Name, Andy's gonna be moving in with us today, an' I don't feel comfortable with him out there all alone. We should get a bed ready for him at home.
Asking for child:
I've been thinkin', how about we have a child of our own?
Let's adopt a child!
Let's have a child!
Let me think about it...
→ Let's adopt a child!
If I'm rememberin' right, we gotta go to the temple to do everything. I reckon we should get started right away.
→ Let's have a child!
Really? That's amazing! Just tell me anythin' you need, I'm right here by your side.
→ Let me think about it...
Hey, no big deal. Let's think about it some more, I'll follow your lead.
Do you think we should have another child?
Player is pregnant:
I thought you were just sick but the doc said you were pregnant? I can't believe it! I'm so happy!
The doc told me not to work too hard. I gotta be there to support ya. Let's try and both take it easy.
Now, pregnancy ain't easy, but I'm here so you ain't gotta worry. If you feel scared, nervous, anythin', just tell me.
Don't worry, I've been counting the days. Won't be long now.
I've been turning down bounties lately. I can't focus and I don't want to put myself in danger before our baby arrives.
I'm gonna have to sharpen my skills. I can't let anything happen to you, or our child.
Please, don't take any risks lately, alright? I need to keep you safe.
I don't want nothin' but a healthy baby. I need to teach them how to grow up strong.
Child is school age:
I reckon our Child is about ready to start school. My Pa was always quick to get me out of the door. I can see why now. Ain't easy raisin' a kid.
Hey, you reckon Child will be a builder in the future, or a monster hunter like me?
Pet name, I'm gonna take Child to school. You gonna come with me?
Okay, let's go!
I'm kinda busy...
→ Okay, let's go!
Right, let's take the kids to school, then we can have some time for ourselves.
→ I'm kinda busy...
It's fine, your job's important. I'll bring Child there. Make sure they're prepared and all that.
