Crafting is the process of creating new items by combining crafting materials. Crafting is the main mechanic and the primary method of progressing through the game.
Materials[]
Materials are obtained through a variety of methods:
- Resource gathering: gathering, logging, quarrying, kicking, sandfishing, recycling, farming, and ruin diving
- Combat loot
- Trading
- Material processing
There are three types of materials:
- Raw materials, which are obtained through resource gathering, combat, or trading
- Refined materials, which are obtained by combining raw materials on a Worktable or crafting station
- Relic materials, which are obtained by ruin diving in Abandoned or Hazardous Ruins
Scraps[]
- Main article: Scrap
Scraps are discarded junk that can be salvaged and recycled into useful materials.
Item quality[]
Items come in one of the three qualities:
- Colorless, or Ordinary
- Green, or Outstanding
- Blue, or Perfect
- Purple, or Rare
The quality affects how much Gols the item will sell for and how much relationship points it will earn the player when given as a gift. Some commissions will also only accept items of a certain quality.
- Colorless and green items sell for base price.
- Blue items sell for 25% more Gols than green items.
- Purple items sell for 60% more Gols than green items.
For the items that have stats, like furniture, crafting stations, or equipment, the quality affects the bonuses they grant and the affixes they have. The higher the item's quality is, the higher the attributes it grants usually are and the more affixed bonuses it usually has.
An item's quality can be increased by using a Refiner. Most crafted items can be refined. You need to have an item (ex. crafting stations) in your inventory to be able to refine it (you need to take an equipment off your character to be able to refine it).
Quality mechanism[]
In general, equipment, crafting stations, and some furniture have variable qualities, while other crafted items have fixed initial qualities.
If a crafted item has variable qualities, the result depends on the qualities of consumed materials. The quality of a crafted item can never be worse than the lowest material's quality, and can never be better than the highest material's quality plus one level. The rough probability of each output quality is shown in the table below.[1]
Material qualities | Outstanding product | Perfect product | Rare product |
---|---|---|---|
All Ordinary | 100% | — | — |
Ordinary and Outstanding All Outstanding |
72% | 28% | — |
Perfect ≤ Average quality < Rare | — | 64% | 36% |
All Rare | — | — | 100% |
Other cases | 63% | 24% | 13% |
Notes:
- Specially, Sand Hat can never be Perfect and only has a maximum 4% chance of being Rare.
- Quality Goods Knowledge and Quality Master Knowledge will increase average material quality by 1/3 level per tier.
- e.g. For 2 green materials and 1 blue material, with tier 2 knowledge the modified average quality will be blue, resulting in 64% chance of blue product and 36% chance of purple product.
- Using more high quality materials will increase the chance of getting better result, but the difference is minimal (usually less than 1%).
- Luck attribute seemingly has no effect on crafting quality. [ verify ]
- The effect of "Production Quality +x%" affix has not yet been investigated.
Crafting basics[]
Fuel[]
Fuel is a necessary resource that keeps crafting stations operable for a set amount of time. Fuel can be obtained by converting Dregs, Wood, Power Stones, or Condensed Power Stones into fuel units by interacting with a crafting station and choosing to fuel it. Once fuel is depleted, the crafting station ceases operation and a no fuel alert symbol is shown above it until fuel is added again.
Most station consume 1 fuel unit per in-game minute (60 units per hour) with some exceptions:
- Assembly Station, Worktable, Drying Rack, Dew Collector, Super Dew Collector, and Refiner consume no fuel.
- All cooking stations consume 5 fuel units per in-game minute (300 units per hour) when they are producing queued items. (Experimenting to create new recipes consumes no fuel or water.)
All fuel costs the same per energy unit, with Condensed Power Stones being negligibly more expensive to use as fuel than the other three types.
Item | Fuel units per one |
Station tier |
---|---|---|
Dregs |
50 | Any |
Wood |
50 | Any |
Power Stones |
500 | Any |
Condensed Power Stone |
1,500 | 2 or higher |
Using a generator[]
The player can obtain a diagram for a Fire Powered Generator from Qi at the Research Center for 16 Data Discs. The generator can be assembled and placed on the property to automatically fuel all placed crafting stations that are currently operational. The generator has a much greater fuel capacity compared to any other crafting station and can be used to avoid refueling every station manually; once the fuel in the generator runs out, the stations will use up any fuel loaded into them individually.
A Fire Powered Generator can use any type of fuel available in the game and consumes no water.
A Fire Powered Generator can be refined and upgraded to increase its fuel capacity further. Additional generators can be placed in the workshop to further increase the fuel available; each of the generators placed needs to be refueled manually.

Water[]
Water is a vital resource that acts as a cooling aid to keep crafting stations from overheating. Water is stored in the Water Tank located on the player's property. By interacting with the Water Tank, the player can view statistical information, such as the time remaining to complete a queue and water usage per hour, and adjust the water level by adding more water into the tank or moving water from the tank to their inventory.
The Water Tank can store 300 units of water and can be upgraded to store more water. Every container of water added to the tank or removed from it will add or remove 10 units of water respectively. Most crafting stations consume water while they are active; the water consumption varies by type and level. When all water is consumed, all crafting stations halt production and display a water shortage symbol above.
Upgrading the Water Tank[]
The Water Tank can be upgraded to the Intermediate Water Tank to hold 570 units of water by interacting with it and selecting the Upgrade tab.

Sand accumulation[]
Sand is accumulated under and around crafting stations over time. If a station gathers up too much sand, its efficiency will be halved and a warning symbol will be shown above it. The player can clean up the sand piles using a Feather Duster with no Stamina cost.
All station accumulate sand at the rate of 0.21 units per working hour up to the maximum of 100 units. During a sandstorm, all machines will collect more sand then usual. [ verify ]
When the player cleans sand with a Feather Duster, they can sometimes get items. The player's Luck attribute affects the chance of getting rarer items. The items the player will get are different during a sandstorm.

Crafting stations[]
Crafting stations allow the player to refine raw materials or create new items. Some crafting stations require time to craft an item; other crafting stations can instantaneously craft an item with the necessary materials.
At the player's arrival to Sandrock, Mason retires as the local builder and relinquishes his workshop to the player with two crafting stations: the Worktable and the Assembly Station. More blueprints for crafting stations are provided through missions or Data Disc research.
Attributes[]
Each crafting station has its own attributes that can be increased by refining it to a higher quality. Most stations have three fixed attributes and one bonus attribute randomly selected from five possible bonuses.
Fixed attributes are:
- Working Queue that determines how many crafting queues (or orders) the player can schedule. This attribute depends on the station's level and does not increase with its quality.
- Queue Capacity that determines the maximum number of items in each queue; Queue Capacity can be increased by refining the station to higher quality.
- Fuel Capacity is the maximum amount of fuel the station can hold measured in fuel units. Fuel Capacity can be increased by refining the station to higher quality.
Possible bonus attributes are listed below; the game randomly chooses one of these bonus attributes every time a station is crafted or refined. The chances to get each of the attributes are the same.
- Fuel Consumption reduction decreases the amount of fuel the station consumes when working.
- Water Consumption reduction decreases the amount of water the station consumes when working.
- Production Quality increases the chance to get higher quality items when crafting.
- Production Speed decreases the time it takes for the station to produce items.
- Increased Yield Chance gives a chance to get bonus items when crafting.
Exceptions[]
- Drying Rack will never have fuel or water consumption related attributes since it consumes no fuel or water.
- Worktable and its upgraded versions have only one attribute: Queue Capacity that appears to have no effect.
- Dew Collector and Super Dew Collector only have Water Capacity attribute that determines the maximum amount of Dew they can collect.
- Refiner has no attributes.
Tiers[]
The higher tier the station is, the more queues the player can schedule at a time and the higher its fuel and queue capacity is. Station tier is fixed and cannot be increased; however, a station can be refined to a higher quality and level to increase some of its attributes. The numbers in the table below are listed for a station of the Outstanding quality (first number) and for a station at its maximum possible item level after refining (second number).
Not all station tiers are currently implemented.
Station tier | Queues | Queue capacity | Fuel capacity |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 10-15 | 1,500-2,500 (25 to 41.67 hours) |
2 | 2 | 12-16 | 2,600-3,900 (43.33 to 65 hours) |
3 | 2 | 13-18 | 4,000-5,700 (66.67 to 95 hours) |
4 | 3 | 15 |
Types of crafting stations[]
Worktable[]
- Main article: Worktable
The Worktable is the primary method of crafting items. This station can refine raw materials or create new items and equipment. Initially, the Worktable can only craft a few items; as the player progresses, more crafting recipes are rewarded, and others can be purchased at the Commerce Guild Store.
Worktable can be later upgraded to an Intermediate Worktable and Advanced Worktable.
